Thy name is vanity

If Shakespeare were alive today and knew about copyrights, he would be richer than Carlos Slim, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Bernard Arnault and Li Ka-Shing all put together.

Oh well, that's from a book lover's point of view anyway.

I'm totally excited about a handbag I just bought. Well actually, I bought it about 2 months ago but my sister's items finally arrived today from the UK so yay!

Here's the said bag.

Much, much cheaper (about £680 cheaper)  than a Mulberry Alexa (my Mom has one of those, btw). I'm too lazy to read and post all the descriptions of the bag so let me end my bragging with this;

"OMG SO PRETTYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!"

There you have it. I feel so vain all of a sudden haha rasa macam nak lempang diri sendiri.

Just posted a photo of the bag on Instagram and an idiot has to ruin my joy by posting all sorts of insulting comments about my femininity and then brush the comments off as jokes gila kurang ajar (It wasn't the first time he joked about that but I usually said something to diffuse the situation and when he went on and on about it, I just left him be). And then when I put a stop to his insults, he tried to put it like I was the one who was at fault for failing to laugh at his jokes lepas tu kata dah taknak comment on my photos dah amende lahai lepas tu delete balik komen dia what a wuss.

Anyway, talking about posting photos on Instagram, now that I've finally posted a photo of something that I just bought, I'm two steps closer to finally become a successful Instgrammer. I've posted photos of food before this, so I only need to post photos of inspirational quotes and my camwhoring pics and I'll be a success yeay!

Talking about inspirational quotes, well, I have an aversion to quotes, welll....maybe a slight aversion. I don't hate quotes actually, I'm just not a big fan. I can see how quotes can inspire people to achieve things, buuuuut....I don't know, I guess the overusing of quotes is making me sick. Plus, most quotes are attributed to the wrong people or they're just not worthy to be spread around.  One of the most popular wrongly attributed quotes that I can think of right now is "A journey with a thousand miles must begin with a single step" and most people would attribute the quote to Confucius, when actually it was quoted by Lao-Tzu, the author of Tao Te Ching (Exhibit A). Oh and "Let them eat cake!". It wasn't quoted by Marie Antoinette, but the quote can be found in Jean Jacques Rousseau's autobiography, Confessions (Exhibit B).

I can only think of two quotes, but I'm sure Google can give me more. You're lucky I'm too lazy to find them all or I'll be at it till the kingdom comes.

Actually I'm excited to say something about the unworthy quotes.

.......

.......

.......

Siot I couldn't find the "....till Jannah" quote! You know, the quote that says something like,"....I will follow you till Jannah" or something along that line. I always find it funny when people Arab-icised words like Jannah or zaujah or manhaj or maqasid or dua or shalah (feel free to add more), etc, etc because they sound like pretentious pricks to me. And my sister once told me a story (dunno whether it's fiction or true though) and I think it's so funny.

The story goes like this.

A couple just got married, after the akad nikah, the husband said to his new wife, "Abang akan menjaga zaujah sebaik mungkin semoga kita sama-sama mendapat keberkatan sampai Jannah" and the wife was so happy, thinking that her newly-acquired husband knew a lot about Islam and could guide her so that she could be a better Muslim. That night, the wife asked the husband to be the Imam for the solat Maghrib and Isyak and the husband said, "Errrr....camne ek nak jadi Imam? Bacaan dia lain ke daripada bacaan makmum?".

There you have it.

So I don't get it, what's wrong with using doa and solat? Arabicising Malay words will not make you closer to God kot. Mintak-mintak tak kena sambar petir lepas ni.

What I'm trying to say is, I can understand how some quotes can inspire people to achieve great things, but I don't understand why some people say things like "I live by this quote". Isn't it better that you put your own words into a quote and wahlah! you just created your own life mottos. Play around with words or put your own spin on an already-famous quote, and you can create your own daily mantra too.

I always think that people who post quotes are lazy. They want to come across as intelligent and profound but they always fail miserably. Kalau yang quote tapi tak attribute the quote tu lagi lah fail. I'm not saying that I don't like the people who always post quotes, because I like reading and I like learning new things so I would get excited when people post something (seemingly) new, but man, I usually feel let down by these people. At least take the time to understand the quotes dulu lah before posting them online.

Quotes cannot change the way you are, only you can change yourself.

Well, you can quote me on that though.
