Very drama queen-esque title but oh what the hell.
So from Sunshine City, we went to Shin-Okubo to our first hotel. It's an okay only hotel, but it has free WiFi (note: my Dad said that actually all cheap hotels have free WiFi, it's the 5-star hotels that will charge you for WiFi. Dunno whether it's true or not though), very near to the Shin-Okubo station and and it provides toiletries (very important). The room is very small, but since both of us are on the short side, I think it's okay. Okay lah for the price we paid. I will recommend this hotel if you're short on cash and if capsule hotels are not your thing.
M and I agreed early on that we wanted to stay at 3 hotels, a cheap one, a not-so-cheap one and capsule. Since the price of cheap hotels in Tokyo borders on the not-so-cheap side, it was quite tiring to look at each and every hotel that fit in our budget. My parents tried to help, but since they're old and old people don't understand that young people have little to no money, most hotels they picked were either a) have at least 3 stars, or b) holy shit expensive. My Dad had the nerve to look hurt when I refused to even look at this hotel he once stayed in. He even launched into his favourite "when I was your age" lecture he likes to give :(
So back to the hotel.
Like I said, it's very near to the Shin-Okubo station, only a 3-minute walk or so. I've heard that the hotel staff are not very friendly and quite horrid, but they were friendly to us so I guess we caught them at the best of times. I asked my Ghibli Museum tickets to be sent there and they were fine with it.
We checked in at around 5 o'clock and after shower (the last shower both of us took was in Malaysia, so you can guess how stink we were), we decided to walk around the area after taking a nap......which turned into an 8-hour sleep. Yes we both conked out and woke up at the wee hours of the morning and since it was too late to go out and look for food, we ate some instant porridge with sambal bilis instead. Oh I need to tell you that the hotel doesn't provide any kettle but on the first floor, there is a Coway-like machine which has hot and cold water. I brought along my tiny kettle so I didn't discover this until the next morning when we were about to go to Kamakura.
And I'll tell you about Kamakura in the next post. Sorry, no photos of the hotel room but trust me, it is tiny. Even the lift is tiny. It can only fit 2 people with big ass bags.
