I typed the above paragraph just before the situation in Egypt erupted into something much worse. I typed all that, saved a draft and went to bed. The next morning I woke up to the news that 200+ people were killed in violent clashes with the military. And then the next day after that, the number has climbed to 500+. Now it has reached thousands.
If you're thinking what the hell that above paragraph has anything to do with the situation in Egypt, well, I can't answer that. Totally forgot about what I wanted to say but I'm sure it was something that made sense to me at that time, which is rare, because most of the time, I don't make sense.
But you know what truly makes sense? Military coup is never a good thing. Hell, scratch that, violence is never a good thing. People need to know that not all protesters in Cairo are pro-Morsi, some of them are on the streets because they believe in democracy, and that, my friends is what binds all the protesters. They are there for something they believe in. They want someone who they voted to helm the country, not the military who open fire at anyone who they think pose a threat.
The people of Ikhwanul Muslimin are not any better too. Yes, they are wronged, and yes, their families and friends are being slaughtered at this exact moment, but why retaliate against people of other religions? It truly doesn't make sense (to me, at least). The military is your enemy. The military is the one who captured Morsi and killed all those people. Not the Christians whose churches have been burned and other religions' worshippers who have been beaten to death and raped by the people who claimed they are members of IM.
Most Malaysians will believe differently though. They believe that any crime committed against the protesters is a crime against Islam and Muslims, when actually it's more of a crime against humanity. They believe that the Armageddon is near, because almost all countries in the Middle East are in turmoil right now and the enemy of Islam is nearing their goal, which is to capture Makkah. I really don't know whether it's true but really? Everything is too reaching to be the truth. People are grasping at straws and come up with bullshit all the time.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying the Armageddon and all are not true. I'm just pissed that people always put 2 and 2 together and come up with bullshit.
But do you know who's the real enemy here? TPTB that gives $1.3 billion dollars to Egyptian military per year to keep its Daddy happy and refuses to call the situation in Egypt a military coup. Yes, I get that the treaty is one of the reasons that holds the countries in Middle East together and I know shit about the complexity of politics but seriously, to do nothing about it? Why is that? I just don't understand.
On the other hand, it's easy for us to say that the Arab countries are doing nothing while their brothers are at war, but has anyone made an effort to dig deeper and find out why? I'm sure it's not as easy as it seems. The situation is too complex to comprehend and what we call "solutions" will only setback any actions to bring peace to the Middle East. Nothing is as black and white as we like to think.
I won't pretend that I know more about this but one thing I do know, all the leaders in the world need to stop patting their backs for all the nothing they are doing/planning on doing.
I've used up all my seriousness quota of the month in this post. Don't be shocked to see One Direction or Disney videos in my next posts.
