I was late for today's training because I waited for Felix Baumgartner's supersonic freefall last night. I waited till the end because I'm cool and awesome and hip and geeky like that. You old people have Neil Armstrong and we the young generation have Felix Baumgartner, who possesses a much hotter name by the way. I couldn't find a longer video for his freefall, but click play anyway because this is too awesome.
I read somewhere that more than 30 cameras were following Baumgartner's movements so that was why the shots were from different angles. And there were problems before he opened his parachutes because he was spinning laterally. A skydiver friend (actually he only skydived once ahahah but okay lah, at least he knows more than me. And I don't know how he knew that Baumgartner was spinning laterally because all I could see was one little tiny white dot) told me this was very dangerous because it might cause him physical and mental illnesses. You know how in comics and cartoons there are characters with burst eyeballs? I don't know whether the asshole was just pulling my leg but yeah very scary but luckily he managed to open his parachutes. And there you have it, a two-world-record holder.
In case you're wondering why this guy is so insane to jump freefall from the edge of space and your ass is too lazy to read the newspaper or watch the news, Baumgartner was trying to make a freefall jump at supersonic speeds (can you tell that I just love the word "supersonic"?) before parachuting to the ground. This is all done to provide the medical and scientific research data for the future generations, and one of the research has something to do with whether it is possible for astronauts to make emergency landing when they're in space. And in case you didn't know, it's a very dangerous mission because one simple mishap could cause his death. He wasn't the first one to try this though, because 52 years ago, Joseph Kittinger and a Russian whose name escapes me right now did what Baumgartner did yesterday. That was done in 1960s, when no one knew whether humans could survive from a jump from the edge of space, which makes it more impressive because there were no computers back then and these men did it because their curiosities knew no boundaries . (Fact: Joseph Kittinger was yesterday's mission controller and directed Baumgartner for his freefall). Both of them broke the sound barrier, but they weren't the only ones. The first man to break the sound barrier was Chuck Yeager, a former Air Force pilot. He became a major general or something like that but I wasn't too interested with his titles so I skipped that part. Try to read about how he broke the sound barrier if you have the time, because it's very interesting but I guess you won't because our definitions of interesting topics differ greatly and my interests usually bore others.
Translation (for the whole paragraph in case you're just too lazy to finish reading it or you've fallen asleep after the words "in case....") - this whole thing is amazingly awesome.
And before you say anything about this was just a waste of time and money and a total rubbish, ask yourself whether you're wiling to sacrifice yourself for the greater good of mankind :) Plus, this mission was privately funded by Red Bull so yeah I would rather support these kinds of missions than to see someone spends my hard-earned money on a new smartphone. Haha apple and orange I know but I can't help it.
This is a video of yesterday's mission highlights
The song is in the video is Free by Twin Atlantic.
Very fitting, don't you think?
You can read all about it from the other blogs and news outlets because I'm sure their info are more accurate than mine. These are just my personal views :)
But I wasn't so cool and awesome and hip this morning though because I was an hour late for my training due to the heavy rain which caused massive traffic congestions all the way from Kajang to PJ (ngeheheheheh sebenarnya sebab bangun pukul 7 pagi tadi) and the Lady Boss was so pissed at me she didn't even talk to me the whole day lulz perangai macam budak-budak gila.
Maybe I'll write about my training after this because the topics were very interesting.
