The Dollhouse

Did you listen to Fly FM's Pagi Rock Crew yesterday? Well, one mother called the radio yesterday because her only child, an engineer, wants to stop working and start pursuing his dream as a dancer. The mother tried to blackmail the son emotionally and all by saying all she wants for her son is for him to have a better future. And then she said things like "who's gonna take care of me and your father when you go on a tour? You're our only son, only child!" and then sobbed uncontrollably.

It may sound a bit far-fetched to you, because who the hell wants to leave a well-paid job to become a penniless, tour-going dancer, right? But I can relate.

I've always wanted to study art history. Okay, scratch that. I've always wanted to get involved in art history. I want to study art history and I want to work in the industry. No, I can't paint worth a damn so that leaves out painting restoration as one of my job prospects. I don't know, I can't explain it. Art history fascinates me like no other things. Before I went to Europe all on my own, art history was just something that nagged on my mind and I never planned on pursuing it. But being surrounded by the most extraordinary art pieces in history (I spent most of my time in museums and original houses of painters) told me this is something I want to do. From just a fancy thought, it finally became an idea that I can't shake off.

I have a vague plan that outlines things like I'm giving myself 3,4 years to save money and then I'll leave the audit/finance field and start from scratch. I haven't decided which period fascinates me the most, because I can't choose! Everything is just too precious.

Haven't told my parents about it yet, but I thank God that I'm not an only child or the emotional blackmail would hold me down.
