Thank you Allah

I'm happy to announce that I've mastered the art of completely out-tuning a person's monologue about him/herself and veering the conversation to another topic in mere seconds. The only drawback is I've become quite a rude person because I completely cut the person off while he/she is in the middle of talking.

Actually, come to think of it, I do that a lot when I become impatient and want to get my points across, even to the non self-absorbed people too.

Hmm...one point against myself.

As much as I like to think that my English is quite superior compared to others', actually it's not. My English is worse than a five-year-old's mind you. An example of my incompetency is I don't know whether to use "is" or "are" when it comes to football teams. I usually use "is" because a team is singular (like a couple) but I've come across a lot of "are's" in the newspapers, e.g Arsenal are..., Italy are...., etc, etc.

And I don't know whether to use "is/was" or "are/were" when it comes to "none of us...". Okay here's an example,

"None of us was(?)/were(?) able to move the body."

Sorry, I'm reading a gruesome novel right now. Surprisingly, I'm not the only one who encounters the same problem. And just like this person, I usually use "is/was" because well, if anything else fails, I always use a singular verb/noun/whatever. But then, I know which verb to use when I come across sentences like these;

"None of them are soldiers" or "None of them is a soldier".

So, either one is right I guess. It depends on the structure of the sentence. But like I said, in most cases, I would use the singular form because I think it's safer.

And then, the use of "me" and "I". I know that "you and me" (e.g Ijan and me are going to the mall) is wrong (the correct one is "you and I" e.g Ijan and I are going to the mall. It has been drummed into my skull since I was little) whereas "between you and me" is correct and "between you and I" is not. And like the use of "none" it depends on the functions of "me" and "I".

Actually, I don't have much issues with the pronouns. The issues I have are with the PEOPLE who disabuse "me and "I". One example is;

"Me no longer a blog virgin". -Exhibit A. Thanks.

Ooops I'm sorry (actually I'm not).

Anyway, what the fuck is up with that? It's not funny and it definitely is not cute. Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT ever replace "I" with "me" or vice versa. That offence might cause restless nights and coronary failures to people like me. There are some people who I genuinely think shouldn't come near a pen or a keyboard.

And I should stop at that.

Since I'm on a roll about grammar and such, I should also tell you that it always pains me whenever I see "Thanks God". Since I've been quite bitchy lately and I want to neutralise myself, let's say something positive about this. Let's just say that these people accidentally put an "s" after the word "thank" or they're missing a comma.

Thanks, God. I'm sure this post has 537, 847 grammatical errors though.

And man, all these deaths are making me depressed. The deaths of my friend's father and the Deputy Transport Minister made me teary (don't mind me, I cry easily) but dear God, it's heartbreakingly sad to know that almost all of a country's leaders died at the same time. Although most of the Polish people seem to disagree with the president's political stance, I'm sure Poland must be overwhelmed with grief right now. I know I would grieve too if the same tragedy strikes Malaysia.

It seems like it was only yesterday that I watched Katyn with Zira. May God bless these people.
