Don't hit the turbo bass

Much as I like to think that I have an unrivalled taste in music, actually, I don't (to some people's beliefs lah, I still think my taste in music is immaculate). And I really need to stop hyperventilating when people make fun of my music choices. And I have to stop making fun of others' music choices too but dammit, it's hard to do that when someone actually likes Taylor Swift. But oh well, tolerance is the key. And I'm easily ticked when it comes to my favourite artists.

Haih, I need to respect other people's choices, but it's just too easy to make fun of them. But at the end of the day, I'm the one who gets annoyed because people shot my arguments down, when actually I do that all the time.

I can be very unreasonable at times, I know.

BUT.....

Of course there's a but. You don't think I'm gonna bow down without a but now, don't ya?

Whenever I read album reviews in Malaysian media (newspapers, internet, etc, etc) I'd be pissed. It's bad enough that most of these reviewers don't even know the genre of the artists they're reviewing, but to actually attempt at giving a review and make it sound like you're a pompous-know-it-all are grating on my nerves. Look, I'm not gonna be delusional here and actually say that I can do a better job than them (actually, I do) but dear God, make an effort lah to actually get to the bottom of the records and read other reviews before you form an opinion. It's good to have a second opinion anyway.

I'm not saying that a person should copy other reviews word by word(which I think is rampant nowadays), but please lah, do your homework. I know that even the most ardent reviewers can make mistakes too, but I think you get the drift now.

I've been voicing my displeasure (chewah!) about Malaysian reviewers since forever. Yeah, yeah, I complain a lot but that's beside the point. And I'm writing this post because of the review on Gorillaz's newest album Plastic Beach in The Star .

You see, I think that Plastic Beach might be one of the best albums in 2010. It's definitely one of Damon Albarn's best efforts for sure, and that includes his albums with Blur. This album is ambitious and lush (for lack of a better word) and gorgeously-executed. And coming from someone who relatively hates anything rap and hip-hop, that's something. Not that it matters a whit anyway.

I understand that no two persons can have the same opinion, but come on, don't be so ignorant. Oh wait, what am I saying? These are the same people who keep on comparing Paramore (genre: pop punk) and Flyleaf (genre: alternative metal) too. It's like comparing Beatles with the Clash. I think there's a rule somewhere that you shouldn't compare the albums of two different bands from two different genres. It's unseemly.

But I'm more annoyed with this review actually. And it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm in love with Julian Casablancas. Okay lah, I lied. But really, it's touted as one of the best albums last year so don't you think it deserves a better review than that?

Oh well, hello there...

And I sound like a pompous-know-it-all douche in this post too but I'm not gonna apologize.

edit:

I'm the happiest person in the world right now! van Persie is coming back woot woot! Now all we need to do is win the quarter final matches. Oh and make sure that there's no stumble in the title race. Again.

Ooh and I switched on the comment moderator. Banyak sangat komen merepek.
