Isn't that the sweetest thing?
I just got back from watching Avatar and man, beautiful is inadequate to describe the movie. It's too breathtaking. Awesomely-made. But then of course, the sceptic in me can still find faults in everything. Like always.
Here are Avatar's good points;
- The special effects and visuals are just phenomenal. Absolutely stunning.
- The details on the CGI works are stunning. The teeth on that WTF-type of beasts, the petals on the whattheflowersnames, everything is just amazing.
- Sam Worthington.
- Michelle Rodriguez. She's hot.
- This movie is fast-paced. It tells the story through actions, not words. You don't know how relieved I am about that.
- I think this is the first big-budgeted original movie I've watched since forever. So that should count for something.
- The Na'vi language. I have a thing for people who create their own languages (only the awesome ones though, not some stupid, gibberish languages), like J.R.R Tolkien's TolkLang.
- The sparkliness of the Na'vis and Pandora itself-->I can't resist the dig.
- The movie blends multiple ideas and rolls them into one. This combination of ideas is told smoothly, without interruption and irritation.
- The same can be said about the CGI smoothness. You would be sucked into that make-believe world of Pandora. It looks too real. Or maybe that's because we watched the movie on 3D.
- The similarities of the storyline with the war in Iraq.
- Sam Worthington. Yup, I like him so much that he deserves a second mention.
- Sam Worthington again.
- I don't know why but I think it's ironic that James Cameron is using the most advanced technology to create an untouched-by-technology world.
- He needs to hire a screenwriter instead of doing it himself. I'm not denying his talent, but a planet called Pandora? Duuuuude, scratch that someone, he needs to hire me.
- I don't understand why the Na'vis have to sound, act and look too much like an African tribe. In almost every Hollywood movie, any remote population/alien population/other populations instead of the Americans and Europeans/the bad people would look, act and sound almost exactly like the Africans. Come on, if you can develop a complicated, most advanced technology all by yourself, to create an unheard of type of people(?) alien(?) is no big deal.
- I'm also annoyed with Neytiri, that skinny, blue-skinned, small-breasted Na'vi (a.k.a perempuan tak sedar diri). Okay, okay, I blame Zoe Saldana for this but she's too over-dramatic and that makes her looks so fake and...acting out somehow. Blegh, I can't put into words what I'm thinking. I'll get back to you on that.
- It takes too much time. But I'm fine with that.
- I know I said that the movie is original and tells the story smoothly, but it lacks the required feelings and it's too predictable. Throughout the movie, I was hoping that a protagonist (I was hoping for Neytiri) to be killed, but meh, she's just too stubborn to just die and let me live happily ever after with my beloved Jake Sully.
- The similarities with the Iraq war. Yes, I know. I put that as a good point too.
- Sam Worthington needs to show more skin. And I don't mean the skinny, blue-skinned, loincloth-ed version of Sam Worthington. James Cameron, you're a prude.
- This movie is predictable to the point of being too cheesy. I don't know why I feel that way.

Maybe I should tell you that I heard Ateem sighed SEVERAL TIMES throughout the movie.
Enough Avatar fangirl-ing..
Oh, everytime I board a train, I always put my iPod on full blast (to avoid conversations with other people. Yes, I can be so snooty sometimes). So tonight's ride was no exception. To my surprise, the person who sat next to me asked me what kind of music do I listen to because he likes The Strokes too! (I had Tourist by Julian Casablancas on repeat the whole today. Yup, that's how loud my iPod is). And we talked and talked until I reached my stop. So, :D
And I met an old friend today! Today was a good day indeed despite that minor glitch with the ASUS people.

Semua hollywood animation dah chun skang ni. What sets them apart is the storyline. Gua plan nak tengok avatar ni tapi wife gua preggo. Tak elok tengok animated character yang bent out of shape, so they say lah kan.
Mungkin gua akan tengok movie ni secara curang.
Tengok 3D, experience like no other.
