Non-alcoholic hand sanitiser for Muslims

MOST hand sanitisers are not suitable for Muslims as they are alcohol-based.

Eco Verde Sdn Bhd has introduced a new non-alcoholic foam hand sanitiser which is a safe, non-irritating, non-flammable and non-staining alternative to conventional hand sanitising products.

Marketing director Sha'azza Abdul Aziz said the product, which used US technology, was scientifically proven to be able to kill a wide range of common and dangerous microbes with unprecedented efficacy.

He said the hand sanitiser could provide more than three hours of protection, if users did not wash their hands too regularly.

"Considering the threat of the influenza A (H1N1) virus which is still affecting the country, this non-alcoholic product is handy for those who want maximum protection against germs, spores, moulds and fungi."

Sha'azza said alcohol-based hand sanitisers stripped the skin of the outer layer of oil, which was one of the body's natural defences against bacteria. He said this could lead to dry skin and painful irritation which could last for days.

He said the active ingredient in Eco Verde products was benzalkonium chloride. This antimicrobial compound has been used widely in hospitals -- in surface cleaners, sterilising agents and anti-bacterial skin treatments -- for more than 60 years.

You know the arguments about the use of perfumes during your solat? The same can be used here. Muslims CAN use alcohol-based anything as long as you don't consume that shit. Besides, there are a lot of alcohol-free hand-sanitisers that are sold in this country.
